Gerri Berendzen

Gerri Berendzen is a Lecturer at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Kansas. She previously served as a Knight visiting news editor at the Columbia Missourian and a visiting assistant professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, focusing on interactive news editing, fact checking, and digital verification.

With over 30 years of experience in newspapers, she has worked as a copy editor, page designer, digital editor, and reporter for publications in Missouri and Illinois. She directed the print/digital/design desk at the Quincy Herald-Whig and served on the national board of ACES: The Society for Editing from 2005-2018.

Her research interests include journalism practices, digital media editing, and news verification techniques.

She earned an honors bachelor's degree from Saint Louis University and a master’s degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism.
