Gero Miesenböck is the Waynflete Professor of Physiology and founding Director of the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour at the University of Oxford. Previously, he held roles at Yale University (Associate Professor), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Assistant Member and Professor), and the University of Innsbruck Medical School.
His research focuses on optogenetics, neuroscience, neural circuits, biophysics, and cell biology. He invented optogenetics, a groundbreaking technique for studying brain function, earning international acclaim.
- Awards: Recipient of the Brain Prize (2013), Shaw Prize (2020), and multiple fellowships including the Royal Society.
- Labs/Teams: Leads the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, exploring neural systems and behavioral control.
