Gernot Kamecke serves as a Lecturer (Privatdozent) at the Institute of Romance Studies within the Faculty of Languages and Literature at Humboldt University of Berlin, specializing in Spanish-language literatures. His academic trajectory includes significant appointments as Acting Professor of Romance Literatures at HU Berlin (2022), University of Erfurt (2020/2021), and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (2019), along with visiting professorships at Colombian universities.
His educational background features a 2004 doctorate from HU Berlin, habilitation in 2013, and qualification as Professor of General and Comparative Literature by the Conseil national des universités in Paris (2014). He received the Heisenberg fellowship from DFG in 2015, cementing his research credentials.
Kamecke's research spans multiple domains with particular depth in Spanish Golden Age literature, Enlightenment prose, Latin American literary traditions from the 19th-20th centuries (especially Argentine, Colombian, and Mexican works), French literature across three centuries, and Francophone Caribbean postcolonial writing. His theoretical framework integrates philosophy of literature with comparative literary theory, demonstrating special interest in the intersections between literature and philosophical discourse, particularly through the lens of Alain Badiou's thought which he has translated and discussed extensively.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals consistent engagement with narrative theory, philosophical underpinnings of literary works, and postcolonial identity constructions. His scholarship demonstrates remarkable linguistic versatility with publications in German, Spanish, French, English, and Portuguese, reflecting his transnational academic approach.
