Gerhard Tschopp

Gerhard Tschopp is a Lecturer and Research Assistant at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), within the Engineering and Information Technology School. He holds a teaching position focused on Chemistry and Materials, and his research expertise includes Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GDOES), next-generation solar cell technologies (hybrid perovskite-based), and biomedical engineering through the HuCE–BME Lab. His work spans medical instrumentation, sensor technology, and biomechanics.

Education & Qualifications: Tschopp completed a Chemical Laboratory apprenticeship (1979–1982), followed by studies in Chemistry at the University of Fribourg (1986–1988). He earned teaching certifications as a European University Lecturer (2005) and holds Swiss federal qualifications as a vocational educator (SVEB 1 & 2, 2005–2006).

Professional Experience: Prior to academia, he worked in R&D at Ciba-Geigy (1989–1993), Hoffmann-La Roche (1993–1995), and EMPA (1996–1997). Since 1997, he has been affiliated with BFH-TI, contributing to both research and teaching roles. He also served as a lecturer at the Höhere Fachschule Biel (2004–2015).

Research Focus: His current projects include advancing solar cell efficiency via perovskite materials, surface analysis techniques (GDOES), and interdisciplinary biomedical engineering through the HuCE laboratory, specializing in medical devices and signal processing.
