Gerelt Tserenjigmid is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He holds a PhD from the California Institute of Technology (2016) and a BA from the University of Tokyo (2011). His research focuses on Decision Theory, Behavioral Economics, and Revealed Preference Theory, with contributions to stochastic choice models, time-inconsistent preferences, and belief updating mechanisms.
Key publications include 'Revisiting the Non-Parametric Analysis of Time-Inconsistent Preferences' (forthcoming in Review of Economic Studies) and 'Behavioral Foundations of Nested Stochastic Choice and Nested Logit' (Journal of Political Economy, 2022), which was a finalist for the 2023 Exeter Prize. His work often bridges theoretical economics with empirical analysis, addressing topics like ambiguity under awareness, dynamic decision-making, and heterogeneous demand patterns.
Current research includes 'Inertial Updating with General Information' (Revise & Resubmit at American Economic Review) and 'Price Heterogeneity as a Source of Heterogeneous Demand' (2025). His articles frequently explore how stochastic rationality and behavioral assumptions shape economic outcomes, with implications for policy and market design.
- Awards: 2023 Exeter Prize Finalist (for JPE paper)
- Collaborators: F. Echenique, E. A. Ok, M. Kovach, A. Dominiak
His research extends to nested logit models, focal quantal response equilibria, and the integration of history-dependent risk aversion into economic frameworks. Ongoing projects include work on Afriat efficiency for random utility models and experimental studies on AI recommendations' impact.
