Gerardo (Jerry) Viera is a Lecturer in Philosophy of Science at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. He holds roles as Director of the MA Cognitive Studies program and Associate Director of the Hang Seng Centre for Cognitive Studies. His research focuses on temporal perception, cognitive science foundations, and interdisciplinary collaborations with psychologists and neuroscientists. Viera completed his PhD in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia (2017), followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Antwerp's Centre for Philosophical Psychology.

Teaching emphasizes philosophy-science interactions through modules like Philosophy of Science (PHI 123), Mind-Brain-Identity (PHI 126), and Philosophy of Cognitive Science (PHI 31009). He supervises PhD students in cognitive science, philosophy of mind, and related areas.
Current collaborations include Templeton World Charity Fund projects investigating visual processes and consciousness. His work bridges philosophical analysis with empirical methodologies from psychology and neuroscience.
