Professor Gerard Goggin is a globally recognized scholar in communication, cultural, and media studies with a focus on digital technology's societal impacts. He has held academic appointments at the University of Sydney, Nanyang Technological University, UNSW, and the University of Queensland, and is currently associated with Western Sydney University. His research spans mobile media, internet histories, disability and media rights, and AI governance. He co-authored seminal works like Cell Phone Culture (2006) and Mobile Media Methods (2024). Goggin is a Fellow of the International Communication Association and the Australian Academy of Humanities, and chairs the Australian Research Council's College of Experts (2024–2026).

- Public Engagement: Founded the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), and advises on digital rights and policy.
