Professor Gerald Ratzer is a Full Professor at McGill University's School of Computer Science. He holds an office in McConnell Engineering Room 330 and specializes in software engineering, modeling/simulation for real-time systems, and Computer Assisted Learning (CAL). He has been involved in commercializing software through McGill Systems Inc., including the sale of Host Explorer. His work spans academic research, industry collaboration, and policy advocacy.
Education: BSc in Honours Physics from Glasgow University, graduate studies at Cambridge University's Maths Lab, and completion of his PhD at McGill University as its first Computer Science graduate student in 1964. Founded McGill's School of Computer Science in 1970.
Research Interests: Real-time systems simulation (e.g., air traffic control), CAL for K-12 and university education, and collaborative software design. His climate change work includes developing educational materials like the '20 Questions on Climate Science' guide and policy analyses on carbon dioxide regulation.
