Gerald Greil

Gerald Greil is a Clinical Professor at King's College London's Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, Department of Imaging Sciences. He serves as a Consultant at Evelina Children's Hospital (Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust) in London, UK, and is the Clinical Lead of the Congenital Cardiac MRI Imaging Service. With over 15 years of experience since his appointment in November 2006, Dr. Greil has established himself as a leading expert in pediatric cardiac imaging and congenital heart disease.

Dr. Greil's research focuses on advanced cardiovascular imaging techniques, particularly cardiac MRI applications for congenital heart disease. His work spans diagnostic and interventional cardiac MRI, image fusion techniques using 3D datasets, vascular imaging of the lumen and vessel wall, and implementation of basic science developments into clinical practice. He has pioneered the use of 3D virtual and real stereolithographic reconstructions of rare congenital heart defects for teaching, clinical use, and research, including applications in virtual surgery.

At Evelina Children's Hospital, Dr. Greil leads the Congenital Cardiac MRI Imaging Service, where he implements cutting-edge imaging technologies for non-invasive assessment of the cardiovascular system. His laboratory focuses on translating novel imaging techniques from research to clinical practice, particularly for patients with Kawasaki disease and those following heart transplantation.
