Gerald Giester serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Mineralogy and Crystallography within the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy at the University of Vienna. His academic career has been active since at least 1994, with continuous research output including over 524 publications.
His research focuses on:
- Crystal structure determination of inorganic compounds
- Advanced materials characterization using X-ray diffraction
- Mineralogical analysis of borosilicates and rare-earth metals
- Spectroscopic methods in gemology
- Solid-state chemistry of complex alloys
Recent publications (2025) demonstrate strong emphasis on structural analysis of borides, amino acid-polyiodide complexes, and innovative gemstone authentication techniques. Article keywords predominantly relate to materials characterization, crystallography, and analytical chemistry.
Scientific Awards:
- APDIC Best Paper Award (June 2019)
He currently leads the research project 'Novel use of borosilicates in geothermobarometry' (2022-2026) and regularly contributes to academic conferences through talks and poster presentations.
