Professor Gerald Friedman is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he has been affiliated since 1984. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University (1986) and a B.A. in Economics and History from Columbia University (1977, Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude).
Research Interests include:

- Labor History across Europe and North America
- Political Economy of healthcare systems
- Gig economy dynamics
- Union revitalization strategies
Recent Publications analyze single-payer healthcare financing, gig economy labor structures, and historical labor movements. His work explores intersections between economic policy, labor rights, and systemic equity.
