Georgios Imanidis

Prof. Georgios Imanidis is a Professor and Head of the Institute of Pharma Technology at the School of Life Sciences, FHNW since 2006, and holds a titular professorship at the University of Basel’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He leads a research group focused on gastrointestinal and transdermal drug delivery, PK/PD profiling, and in vitro models. His expertise includes pharmaceutical technology and molecular kinetics, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and 25+ supervised doctoral theses.

• Pharmacy degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1980)

Research Interests: Development of drug delivery systems for chronic ulcers, colonic targeting, and 3D-printed pharmaceuticals. His work emphasizes in vitro models for drug absorption and the impact of formulation on delivery efficiency. Collaborative projects with industry and academic partners address translational challenges in pharmaceutical technology.

His research group employs advanced techniques like diffusive wave spectroscopy and micro-CT imaging to study drug release and formulation stability. Current projects explore hydrogel dressings, dual-control tablet formulations, and personalized drug delivery.

Grants & Collaborations: Funding from industrial, non-profit, and state sources supports his work. He has established international collaborations and built a team of 20+ researchers, faculty, and students at FHNW.
