IST University of Applied Sciencesمعرفی
Dr. Georgios Amanakis is a physician scientist at Hannover Medical School's Department of Cardiology and Angiology, where he works as a research associate and resident physician under Prof. Johann Bauersachs. He is an active participant in the MHH PRACTIS program, designed to support clinician scientists in developing their research careers while completing clinical training.
Dr. Amanakis's research focuses on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury, with specific expertise in redox-sensitive post-translational modifications and intramitochondrial calcium homeostasis in cardiovascular diseases. He has identified significant potential in applying deep learning techniques to clinical cardiology practice and is actively exploring these approaches. His work is supported by the HiLF-I funding program and the COFONI network.
Currently building toward establishing his own research group, Dr. Amanakis aims to bridge basic science discoveries with clinical applications, particularly in the area of myocardial cell death mechanisms and artificial intelligence implementation in cardiac care. His research trajectory demonstrates a strong commitment to translating laboratory findings into improved patient outcomes for those suffering from acute myocardial infarction.
Dr. Amanakis completed his medical studies at the University of Crete, Greece, followed by residency training in internal medicine and cardiology. He earned his doctorate from the Institute of Pathophysiology at the University of Duisburg-Essen under Prof. Gerd Heusch, focusing on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury. From 2016 to 2020, he conducted research at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Cardiac Physiology under Dr. Elizabeth Murphy, where he published high-impact articles in his field of expertise.
