Dr Georgia Carr is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Communication in Healthcare (ICH) within the Australian National University's School of Literature, Languages & Linguistics. She holds a PhD and a BA (Hons I) from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on functional linguistics, educational linguistics, and health literacy, with emphasis on sex education pedagogy, discourse analysis, and evaluative language. Current projects include improving end-of-life care in cardiology wards and analyzing pre-service teacher training in sexuality education.
Her work spans health communication, media analysis, and sociolinguistics, including studies on diabetes reporting, Aboriginal English, and climate change discourse. Dr Carr’s 2025 book, The Language of Sex Education: With Respect to Consent, explores Australian sex education practices. She has secured grants totaling $120,638, including funding for teacher training and end-of-life care research.
Affiliations include the University of Sydney (Research Fellow) and the International Consortium for Communication in Health Care. Her research methodology integrates corpus linguistics and qualitative analysis, addressing societal issues through language-focused inquiry.
