Professor Georgia Butina Watson is a Professor of Urban Design and Research and Practice Consultant in Planning and Urban Design at Oxford Brookes University's School of the Built Environment. She previously held roles as Head of Planning Department (2001–2015) and Chair of Oxford Brookes University Research Degree Committee (2000–2016). Her expertise spans urban design theory, historic city revitalization, sustainable urban planning, and participatory community projects.
Education: BA, MA, PhD, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
Research interests include healthy cities, placemaking, urban regeneration, and community development. Key projects involve EPSRC-funded studies on sustainable urban neighborhoods and NHS England initiatives on healthy new towns. She has advised international governments and led projects in Qatar, Vietnam, and Brazil.
Awards include the Silver Medal for innovation from the Geographical Association (UK) and recognitions for participatory methods in community projects. She chairs QAA benchmarking for planning disciplines and sits on international urban design juries. Supervision focuses on global urban challenges like place identity in Merida, Mexico, and resilient urban design in Bangkok.
Collaborations include the Academy of Urbanism, Urban Design Group, and Sustainable Urban Environment (SUE) UK network. She co-leads the 'Market Cities' initiative exploring urban economic dynamics.
