Georgia Burns serves as a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at the University of Sheffield, affiliated with both the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute and the Health Research Institute within the College of Social Sciences and Arts. She teaches Visual Communication modules including Graduation Projects in Graphic Design, Graphic Design in Context, and Graphic Design in Production.
Her research centers on design functionality and community-building through creative practice, with emphasis on improving health and well-being in low socio-economic areas of Sheffield. Burns actively participates in community groups and collaborates with local artists on exhibition design, publication design, and artist books, demonstrating how design interventions can address social inequalities.
With six years of higher education teaching experience across multiple institutions, Burns bridges academic practice with real-world community engagement. Her freelance work extends this philosophy through regular collaborations with Sheffield artists, producing socially impactful visual communications that merge artistic expression with practical community development goals.
