George Youssef

Dr. George Youssef is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU), affiliated with the College of Engineering. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of polymers, composites, and multiferroic materials under various strain rates and environmental conditions. He leads the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (EML), which explores advanced manufacturing, material characterization, and energy absorption technologies.

Publications: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on topics like auxetic metamaterials, 3D-printed composites, and polyurea foams. Recent work includes studies on cellulose acetate from cigarette waste and novel bioresins for biomedical applications.

Scientific Awards: 2024-25 Fulbright Scholar, Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award (2022), Alumni Distinguished Faculty Award (2022), and SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award (2016).

Grants & Advising: Secured multiple grants for research in impact mitigation and additive manufacturing. Advised over 50 graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom have pursued Ph.D. studies or industry roles.
