Professor George Xinsheng Zhang is a distinguished academic serving as Professor of Chinese and Director of the Centre for Modern Languages at Richmond University, part of the School of Liberal Arts. He also holds the senior role of Senior Advisor to the President and Provost (China) at the institution. With over three decades of experience in language education spanning British and Chinese universities, his expertise spans language policy, intercultural communication, and cross-cultural business development. He earned his PhD from the University of Nottingham in 1991 and has held significant leadership roles such as Director of SOAS Language Centre and Director of the UK's first Confucius Institute.
His research focuses on bilingual education (particularly English and Chinese), Chinese cultural studies, language acquisition, and teacher training. Notably, his textbook series Chinese in Steps won an award at the Fifth Confucius Conference.
