George Wood

George Wood is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Western Australia, with a research focus on marine ecosystems, particularly kelp forests and biodiversity. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and climate action.

Dr. Wood's research interests center on marine biodiversity, genetic diversity in kelp species, climate change impacts on marine ecosystems, and marine heatwave effects. These projects are funded by the Research Council of Norway, Revive and Restore, Canopy Blue Pty Ltd, Winifred Violet Scott Charitable Trust, and Ecological Society of Australia.

He has supervised at least one research project and collaborates extensively with an international network of marine scientists, particularly with Thomas Wernberg, Sophie Starko, and Adriana Pessarrodona. His work has generated datasets related to seaweed canopy disturbance and genetic diversity indicators for global biodiversity frameworks.
