Professor George Tsiatas is a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. His research focuses on structural reliability, risk analysis, advanced materials, and vibration control under extreme conditions. He holds a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University (1984) and has extensive experience in infrastructure resilience and offshore engineering.
Education:
- Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University, 1984
- M.S., Case Western Reserve University, 1982
- B.S., National Technical University of Athens, 1979
Research Interests:
Professor Tsiatas specializes in structural reliability and risk analysis, applications of advanced materials, vibration control for wind and seismic effects, and the behavior of structures under extreme events. His work integrates theoretical models with practical applications in offshore engineering and infrastructure resilience.
Grants & Collaborations:
- Co-PI for multiple grants, including naval research projects on inflatable structures and composite materials.
- Recent projects include material characterization for inflatable drop-stitch structures and resilience studies for Rhode Island bridges.
Labs & Teams:
His research is conducted in collaboration with the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering and involves interdisciplinary teams addressing challenges in structural engineering and environmental sustainability.
