George Pavlidis serves as an Assistant Professor at Linköping University's Department of Aging and Social Change (ASC) within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. A trained psychologist with a PhD in social gerontology, he conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of psychology and aging studies, specializing in social exclusion, loneliness, and cognitive impacts in older populations. His work is supported by national and international research funding including grants from Forte Research Council.
His research interests focus on:
- Gender differences in social exclusion during aging
- Cognitive consequences of social relationship exclusion
- Development of ethical frameworks for eldercare through projects like St@ndbyMe
- Cultural and societal aspects of aging across European contexts
Pavlidis actively contributes to academic discourse through recent publications in BMC Psychology, Frontiers in Public Health, and The Gerontologist. His work examines how situational and dispositional factors affect social exclusion in older age, with particular attention to gendered experiences and cognitive outcomes. He organized the November 2022 conference 'Loneliness and Social Exclusion: Differences Between Older Men and Women' at Arbetets Museum in Norrköping.
As an educator certified by HEA, he coordinates courses at ASC and teaches across undergraduate and graduate levels. Beyond academia, he serves on the board of 50plus Hellas, a Greek organization addressing issues for people over 50, demonstrating his commitment to practical applications of aging research.
