George Kioseoglou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Technology, University of Crete. His research focuses on 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), spintronics, valleytronics, and semiconductor nanostructures. He has made significant contributions to understanding spin injection, valley polarization, and magneto-optical effects in materials like WS2 and MoS2.
- Education: B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics (University of Thessaloniki), Ph.D. in Experimental Solid State Physics (SUNY Buffalo, 1999)
- Postdoctoral Experience: SUNY Buffalo/Brookhaven National Laboratory (1999-2001), Naval Research Laboratory (NRL)/George Washington University (2002-2006)
His work has been recognized with three NRL Alan Berman Research Publication Awards, and he has co-authored over 85 refereed publications and 200+ conference presentations. Key research themes include:
- Valley polarization mechanisms in TMDs
- Spin injection and detection in semiconductor heterostructures
- Optical control of excitonic states
- Nonlinear optical imaging of 2D materials
Recent publications highlight advancements in strain engineering, photochemical doping, and twist-angle mapping techniques for TMDs. He is an active member of the American Physical Society and contributes to conferences like APS and MMM.
- Scientific Awards
- 3x NRL Alan Berman Research Publication Award (2000, 2002, 2007)
