George Ellinas

Dr. George Ellinas is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus, where he previously served as Department Chair from 2014 to 2020. He holds a B.S., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, where he received the Eliahu Jury Award for outstanding achievements in communications and signal processing. His academic career includes roles as an Associate Professor at City College of the City University of New York (2002–2005) and Adjunct Assistant Professorships at Columbia University and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

His research focuses on optical networks, IoT, intelligent transportation systems, cyber-physical system security, and unmanned aerial systems. He has authored/co-authored over 285 journal/conference papers, 18 book chapters, four books, and holds 30 patents in optical networking. Notable awards include the IET Fellowship, multiple best paper awards, and scholarships from the Cyprus-America Program and Bellcore.

Dr. Ellinas has led projects funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program (KIOS CoE) and the Cyprus Government. His professional affiliations include senior memberships with IEEE, OSA, and ACM, and membership in the Marie Curie Fellows Association.
