George Chabert is a Professor at NTNU, affiliated with the Department of Modern History and Society and the Department of Language and Literature. His research focuses on modern European history, political theory, and cultural studies, with a particular emphasis on French history, European integration, and ideological analysis. He has published extensively in journals like Klassekampen, Dag og Tid, and Revue Romane, as well as academic monographs such as Europa, Europa. Historien om en fransk besettelse (2011) and La fin de l'Histoire (2007). His work critiques contemporary political dynamics, European governance, and historical narratives.
Chabert’s teaching includes courses like FRA1401 (France Since 1945) and FRA2410 (Contemporary French History). He has delivered lectures on topics such as Europe’s institutional crises and has engaged in public outreach through documentaries and academic talks, including a 2016 lecture on Europas trettiårs-krise at Studentsamfundet in Trondheim.
His recent publications analyze modern political movements, democratic theory, and the intersection of history and contemporary issues. He critiques the EU’s democratic deficits, French political regimes, and the societal impacts of globalization. His interdisciplinary approach spans history, political science, and cultural studies, reflecting his dual departmental affiliation.
