George Anquandah is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at St. Mary's University since August 2016. He holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Florida Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Chemistry from Braunschweig University of Technology (Germany), and a B.S. in Chemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana).
- Education:
- Ph.D., Florida Institute of Technology
- M.S., Braunschweig University of Technology (Germany)
- B.S., Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana)
His research focuses on Environmental Chemistry, particularly the remediation of pharmaceutical contaminants in water using iron-based oxidation techniques such as Ferrate(VI). He has contributed to studies on selenium analysis, biogeochemistry, and chemical education pedagogy.
Recent publications highlight his work on the kinetics and products of Ferrate(VI) oxidation of pharmaceuticals (e.g., Propranolol, Trimethoprim) and carbohydrates. He also explores inquiry-based learning in general chemistry laboratories.
George has taught introductory and analytical chemistry courses at St. Mary's University, St. Olaf College, and the College of St. Benedict and St. John University. His pedagogical approach includes problem-based learning strategies.
