Dr. George Abaunza serves as Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences and Professor of Philosophy at Felician University. He has held academic roles since 2000, including department chair and associate dean positions. His expertise spans Philosophy of Education and Social-Political Philosophy, with teaching in Ethics, Existentialism, and Philosophy of Art. He earned his PhD from Florida State University and has conducted Nicaragua-focused service-learning programs since 2009. He co-authored Undefeated: From Tragedy to Triumph (2017) and contributes to the Felician Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs.
Education: PhD/Master’s in Philosophy (Florida State University), BA in Philosophy (Florida International University). Research integrates educational aesthetics with political philosophy, addressing capitalism’s societal impacts through interdisciplinary lenses. His Nicaragua initiatives combine academic study with community service. Professional service includes Board roles at Immaculate Conception High School and governance of Felician’s ethics programs.
Teaching spans over 20 courses across philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Recent publications analyze happiness ethics and metaphysical psychology intersections. He advocates for critical thinking pedagogy and ethical leadership development in higher education.
