Role and Affiliation: Apl.Prof. Dr. Georg von Hippel is a Professor (since 2021) and Scientific Staff member (since 2016) at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. He holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge (2004) and habilitated at the University of Mainz in 2014.
Research: Specializes in Lattice QCD, including perturbative and non-perturbative methods, hadronic matrix elements, and heavy quark dynamics. His work focuses on precision calculations for electroweak observables and quark sea contributions. He leads grants from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and participates in the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+ and the ERC Consolidator Grant SIMDAMA.
Teaching: Teaches courses such as Mathematische Rechenmethoden, Computational Methods of Theoretical Physics, and Introduction to Lattice Gauge Theory. Organizes bridge courses for incoming students.
Outreach: Active in science communication, including the blog Life on the Lattice and public talks like "Wissen im Herzen: Ist das Higgs-Boson an meinem Übergewicht schuld?"
