Prof. Dr. Georg Strack is a Professor of Medieval History at Philipps-Universität Marburg, specializing in the High and Late Middle Ages. His primary affiliations include the Department of Medieval History within the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies. He leads the 'Lichtbildarchiv älterer Originalurkunden (LBA)' database on medieval charters and actively contributes to digital humanities initiatives.
Education: Studied at LMU Munich (1999–2004), earned his doctorate in 2008, and habilitated in 2017. He held visiting positions at the LMU Munich, Rikkyo University (Tokyo), and the University of Würzburg before assuming his current chair in 2019.
Research focuses on papal oratory, Crusades, political communication, and humanism. Notable projects include the DFG-funded 'Stilus curiae' network (2013–2018) and the Mitsubishi Foundation-backed 'European Perceptions of Asia' initiative. His monograph Solo sermone (2022) analyzes papal speeches' transmission and interpretation.
Public engagement includes media commentary on topics like the First Crusade and papal history, as well as podcast appearances and Twitter presence (@StrackGeorg).
