Georg Hamann

Georg Hamann is a Professor of Violin and Viola at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, affiliated with the Josef Hellmesberger Institut. He holds a diploma with highest honours and has received the Gold Medal for Services to Austria. His career includes roles as concertmaster of the Haydn Sinfonietta Wien, violist of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and co-founder of the Aron Quartet. He teaches at mdw and the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School (JSBM), focusing on violin, viola, and chamber music pedagogy.

Education:

• Studied violin with Michael Frischenschlager, Klaus Maetzl, and viola with Hatto Beyerle at mdw
• Completed his diploma with unanimous honours

Research & Teaching: Specializes in classical performance, chamber music, and music education. Leads projects like the 'Forschungsprojekt Sparkling Science' and promotes inclusive music-making through initiatives like the 'Instrumentenparcours.'

Awards: Recognized nationally and internationally for chamber music and teaching. Students have achieved prominent orchestral positions (e.g., Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony) and academic success.

Labs/Teams: Heads the violin/viola class at JSBM and collaborates with institutions like the Arnold Schönberg Center. Active in international masterclasses and festivals (Edinburgh, Gstaad, Nagano).
