Geoffrey Will

Associate Professor Geoffrey Will holds the position of Acting Dean of the School of Science, Technology and Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Queensland, Australia. He completed his BSc and PhD in Chemistry at University College Dublin, Ireland. With over 23 years of experience in academia, he transitioned from Queensland University of Technology to UniSC in 2023. His research focuses on corrosion mechanisms in extreme environments, materials degradation, electrochemistry, and high-temperature solar thermal applications. He has authored over 177 publications in Q1 journals and secured multiple grants.

Key research areas include corrosion of metals and polymers under insulation, atmospheric conditions, and molten salt environments. His work integrates data analytics for predictive corrosion modeling, aiding asset management decisions in defense and civil infrastructure. He leads investigations into solar thermal energy storage systems involving molten salts at temperatures exceeding 800°C. His contributions have been recognized through awards like the 2019 Capability Improvement Award from the Defence Materials Technology Centre.

Prof. Will serves as Associate Editor for journals such as Corrosion Materials and Corrosion and Material Degradation. He is a longstanding member of the Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA), holding roles including National Education Director. His teaching spans Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Electrochemistry, emphasizing practical applications in materials degradation.

Current research interests include corrosion solutions for challenging environments, machine learning applications in materials science, and sustainable energy systems. He collaborates internationally, convening conferences and advising on industry corrosion challenges.
