Geoffrey Wall is a Professor at the Department of English and Related Literature, University of York. He is a literary biographer and joint editor of The Cambridge Quarterly, renowned for his biography of Gustave Flaubert (shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize and James Tait Black Memorial Prize) and translations of Flaubert’s works. His research spans biography, life-writing, and intersections of literature, politics, and history.
Research Interests: Geoffrey Wall situates his work at the convergence of biography, micro-history, and literary analysis. His projects focus on Shakespeare, Flaubert, Freud, and the tensions between creative agency and material circumstances in life-writing. He emphasizes primary texts, exploring themes like narrative skill, intellectual history, and cultural conflicts.
