Geoff Sayre-McCord is the Morehead-Cain Alumni Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he has been since 1985. He also directs UNC’s Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Program and founded the PPE Society. Previously, he was a Professorial Fellow at the University of Edinburgh (2013–2016) and a visiting scholar at Princeton University’s Center for Human Values (2015–2016). From 2019–2024, he served as Executive Director of the Marc Sanders Foundation, promoting philosophy education and outreach.
His research spans metaethics, moral theory, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysics. Beyond academia, he has engaged in public philosophy through talks on platforms like Bloggingheads.tv and radio interviews. Notable lectures include discussions on Evolution and Rational Agency, Adam Smith's Moral Theory, and The Prisoner’s Dilemma.
He has received prestigious awards, including the Philip Quinn Prize (2020) for service to philosophy and UNC’s highest teaching honor (2022). His commitment to interdisciplinary education is reflected in his leadership of the PPE program, which bridges philosophy, economics, and political science.
