Genesia Kilgore-Bowling serves as Professor of Social Work and Chair of the School of Social Work at the University of Pikeville, teaching core courses including Introduction to Social Work, Professional Ethics, Generalist Social Work Practice IV: Policy Practice, and Senior Seminar – Capstone in Armington Hall Room 463A.

She investigates how weight-based discrimination manifests in Appalachian communities and shapes professional training, advocating for structural reforms in educational curricula to address body weight stigma.
Her scholarly output demonstrates sustained focus on fat studies and rural social work contexts, analyzing sociocultural narratives around obesity in media and medical discourse while evaluating their impact on educational practices in underserved regions.
