Gemma Molyneux

Gemma Molyneux is a Researcher exploring the gender imbalance in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and careers. Her current research focuses on girls' interactions with STEM subjects in schools, aiming to identify factors contributing to their lower uptake compared to boys.

Her academic journey includes an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a Master’s in Sociology, driven by a decade-long career in the turbine industry for power generation and aerospace. The project initially proposed ethnographic methods but pivoted to online interviews and photo elicitation due to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gemma combines her technical background with social science to analyze biases in government and exam board data. She advocates for integrating visual methods and reflexivity to address the interpretive nature of social science research.

Her work underscores the intersection of gender, education, and STEM, highlighting the need for inclusive educational practices.
