Gemma Mateo is a Researcher at the Department of Political Science within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Salzburg. She is currently leading the GEOTRADE project, funded by the European Research Council (2024-2029).

Dr. Mateo's research focuses on International Relations, European Integration, and Interest Group Politics. Her work examines the complex dynamics of political representation and decision-making processes within multilevel governance systems, particularly in the European Union context. She has made significant contributions to understanding how different interest groups navigate and influence policy processes across various levels of governance.
Her scholarly work has been published in top-tier political science journals including Comparative Political Studies, European Journal of Political Research, European Union Politics, Interest Groups & Advocacy, and the Journal of Common Market Studies. She has also co-edited a special issue of the Journal of European Public Policy on EU negotiations and co-authored the influential book "Insiders versus Outsiders: Interest Group Politics in Multilevel Europe" (Oxford University Press, 2016).
Dr. Mateo has received research funding through prestigious programs including the European Research Council's GEOTRADE project (2024-2029). Her previous research appointments include a Jean Monnet Fellowship at the European University Institute and postdoctoral positions at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research and University College Dublin.
