Gemma Isabel Turnes Palomino

Dr. Gemma Isabel Turnes Palomino is a University Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She serves as Principal Investigator of the Materials Chemistry Group (MATER) and currently directs the Environmental Analytical Chemistry Laboratory at UIB.

Her research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of porous solids, with expertise in zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and porous carbons. Her work extends to hybrid materials including membranes, sponges, and 3D-printed supports for applications in gas storage, catalysis, and environmental pollutant extraction. This interdisciplinary research spans Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Surface Chemistry.

Dr. Turnes has received significant recognition:

• Multiple salary supplements for teaching excellence and research activity
• Supervision of twelve master's theses and ten doctoral theses

Dr. Turnes leads the consolidated MATER research group and contributes to the LINCC UIB (Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change) as a member of their innovation and technology transfer node, applying materials chemistry to address environmental challenges.
