معرفی
Gemma Eibes is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Engineering, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC). She holds a BSc (2001), MSc, and PhD (2007) in Chemical Engineering from USC. Her research focuses on enzymatic technologies for biorefinery applications, waste valorization, and environmental remediation. She has led projects such as the CREPÉ and PETzyme initiatives, addressing polyester recycling and biorefinery strategies for agro-industrial byproducts like apple pomace.
- Principal Investigator of national and EU-funded projects (e.g., Mineco, ERA-IB2).
- Developed patented systems for microcontaminant removal and bioactive compound extraction.
- Supervised doctoral students (e.g., Sandra González, Abel Muñiz) and master’s researchers in bioprocessing and environmental engineering.
Research interests include sustainable chemical processes, bio-based materials, and enzymatic catalysis for industrial applications. Her work bridges biotechnology and environmental engineering, emphasizing circular economy principles.
- Key areas: lignin valorization, biocatalyst immobilization, and pollution mitigation through enzymatic bioreactors.
