Dr. Geert Somsen is an Associate Professor at the History Department of Maastricht University, with a split appointment at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He directs the MA ESST program and serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal for the History of Knowledge. His expertise lies in the history of science and international relations, focusing on scientific internationalism and the legacy of European imperialism in science.

Research spans scientific internationalism, conference culture, and knowledge historiography. Wells's world state and Mussolini's scientific exhibitions. As a mentor, he supervises PhD candidate Georgiana Kotsou in conference rituals research.
