Gaëlle Chagny

Gaëlle Chagny is a CNRS Research Fellow at the Raphaël Salem Mathematics Laboratory (LMRS) of the University of Rouen, France. She earned her PhD in Mathematics from Paris-Descartes University in 2013 under Fabienne Comte at the MAP5 Laboratory (UMR CNRS 8145). Her doctoral thesis focused on Adaptive estimation with transformed or incomplete data. Applications to survival models.

Dr. Chagny's research centers on nonparametric statistics, with pioneering work in adaptive estimation techniques. Key areas include kernel methods, model selection via Goldenshluger-Lepski strategies, deformation methodologies for warped bases, and applications to survival analysis and mixture models. Her innovative approaches address challenges in functional data, censored observations, and two-sample problems through rigorous theoretical frameworks.

Her publication record (2013-2020) reveals a consistent trajectory advancing adaptive nonparametric estimation, particularly in functional regression and density estimation. This body of work demonstrates increasing sophistication in handling complex data structures while maintaining theoretical optimality.

She actively contributes to academic community building as co-organizer (with Antoine Channarond) of the LMRS Statistics Working Group and through public outreach via Les Sorciers de Salem (a mathematics education platform developed with Thierry de La Rue).

Dr. Chagny maintains extensive teaching commitments across French institutions, including Executive Master courses in functional data analysis at Paris Dauphine, Master 2 nonparametric statistics at Rouen, and undergraduate mathematics/statistics instruction at INSA Rouen, IUT Paris Descartes, and Paris Descartes University.
