Prof. Gavril Farkas is a Professor at Humboldt University Berlin since 2007. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Texas Austin (Associate Professor, 2006-2007; Assistant Professor, 2004-2006) and Princeton University (Assistant Professor, 2003-2004). He completed his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Amsterdam (2000) under advisor Gerard van der Geer, and held postdoctoral positions at the University of Michigan (2000-2003).

Research Interests focus on algebraic geometry, with specialized work in birational geometry, moduli spaces of curves, Brill-Noether theory, syzygies of curves, K3 surfaces, and abelian varieties. His research bridges theoretical advancements with applications in mathematical physics and number theory.

He has served as Director of the Department of Mathematics (2021) and Cochair of the Berlin Mathematical School (2023).
