Gavin R Rumbaugh

Gavin R Rumbaugh is a Professor at Scripps Research in the Department of Neuroscience, where he leads the Rumbaugh Laboratory focused on molecular and genetic mechanisms that shape synapse and circuit biology within the mammalian nervous system. His research provides molecular insight into the relationship between cell biology within neuronal subtypes and how this shapes synaptic architecture of neural circuits that subserve cognitive processing and behavioral adaptation.

The Rumbaugh laboratory is comprised of three collaborative working groups: 1) Neuronal Cell Biology Group focused on elucidating molecular mechanisms within neuronal subtypes; 2) Systems Neurobiology Group using rodent models to understand neural circuit connectivity; and 3) Small Molecule Discovery Group seeking to discover drug-like small molecules that regulate synapse biology. His research spans basic neuroscience and translational drug discovery, with particular focus on neurodevelopmental disorder genes like SYNGAP1.
