Gavin Barlow

Professor Gavin Barlow is a Professor of Infection at Hull York Medical School and the University of York, with an Honorary Consultant role in Infectious Diseases at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He has led antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and co-investigated two NIHR HTA-funded trials (BioDriveAFS and MANTRA).

Research interests span antimicrobial use, epidemiology of severe infections, and translational infection research, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. His work includes in vitro antibiotic synergy studies, mycobiome analysis in leukaemia patients, and innovative medical education as co-editor of the infection chapter in Kumar & Clarke, a leading medical textbook.

He supervises healthcare trainees and contributes to interdisciplinary research collaboratives, including the Infection Research Group at Hull University Teaching Hospitals.
