Dr. Gaspar Epro is a Senior Lecturer at London South Bank University's School of Applied Sciences, where he is affiliated with both the Human Sciences department and the Sport and Exercise Science Research Centre (SESRC). He joined LSBU in 2017 as a post-doctoral Research Fellow and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2020. His teaching focuses on Biomechanics and Strength & Conditioning modules across undergraduate levels (L4-L6).
Dr. Epro obtained his BSc in Health Sciences (2009) and MA in Sport (2011) from the University of Tartu in Estonia, followed by a PhD in Exercise Science from the German Sport University Cologne (2017). Prior to joining LSBU, he worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics and the Institute of Sport and Movement Gerontology at the German Sport University Cologne.
His primary research investigates the plasticity of the human musculoskeletal system in response to mechanical loading and the interaction between neural and motor systems during human locomotion and sports performance. Dr. Epro's work spans biomechanics, sports science, and athletic performance enhancement, with particular expertise in muscle-tendon unit adaptation, stability during movement, and elite athletic performance optimization.
Analysis of Dr. Epro's recent publications reveals a strong focus on biomechanical aspects of human movement, particularly examining muscle-tendon interactions, athletic performance optimization, and responses to mechanical loading. His research combines laboratory-based biomechanical analysis with real-world athletic applications, often focusing on elite sports performance. The work demonstrates consistent themes of adaptation, stability, and performance enhancement across different movement contexts.
- Estonian athletics coach of the year (2012, 2013)
- Accredited Senior Coach (Level 6)
- World Athletics Level 3 Jumps Coach
- Accredited Strength and Conditioning coach (UKSCA)
Dr. Epro serves as the Academic Integrity Coordinator for the School of Applied Sciences (Division of Human Sciences) and is the UoA 24 REF 2029 Lead. He is an active supervisor, currently accepting PhD students, and has supervised multiple research projects. His external roles include providing biomechanical diagnostics and coaching for elite athletes from Estonia, Puerto Rico, and Germany at major international competitions including the Olympic Games and World Championships. He regularly contributes to athletics coaches' education through conferences and workshops organized by World Athletics and national federations.
Dr. Epro is actively involved with the Sport and Exercise Science Research Centre (SESRC) at LSBU, where his work bridges academic research and practical athletic application. His research fingerprint reveals expertise in Recovery Performance, Adaptation, Muscle-tendon Unit, Tendon mechanics, Base of Support, and Stability Recovery. He has produced 53 research outputs between 2014 and 2025, with publication peaks in 2017 (15 outputs) and consistent output in subsequent years.
