معرفی
Gary Scott is a Professor and Director of the Division of Engineering at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), where he holds a faculty position in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He has served in significant leadership roles including Executive Chair of the Faculty (2020-2024) and Assistant Provost for Assessment and Academic Initiatives (2012-2014), demonstrating sustained institutional commitment spanning over two decades at SUNY-ESF.
His academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1993)
- M.S. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1991)
- B.S. in Paper Science and Computer Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (1988)
Dr. Scott's research integrates chemical engineering with paper science and computational methods, focusing on biopulping scale-up, biochemical pulping processes, neural network applications for process optimization, paper recycling systems, and stock flow modeling. His interdisciplinary approach bridges sustainable forestry practices with advanced process engineering, yielding innovations in energy-efficient pulping technologies and waste reduction methodologies critical to the pulp and paper industry's environmental evolution.
His scientific recognition includes the ESF College Foundation Award for Exceptional Achievement in Teaching (2014), Tappi Fellow designation (2012), and SUNY Promising Inventor Award (2004), reflecting sustained excellence across research, teaching, and technology transfer. Additional honors highlight his government-industry collaboration impact:
- United States Department of Agriculture Excellence in Technology Transfer Award (1998)
- Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer (1998)
- Secretary of Agriculture Honor Award (1997)
- Tappi Pulping Conference High Impact Paper Award (1996)
Dr. Scott maintains deep engagement with academic governance as Executive Committee member of ESF Academic Governance and serves on the CNY Biotech Accelerator Board. His professional leadership extends to ABET accreditation (Program Evaluator since 2009), TAPPI governance (Board of Directors 2009-2012), and Syracuse Pulp and Paper Foundation (Board 2007-2018). He provides strategic guidance through Scientific Advisory Board membership at Biopulping International and International Advisory Board roles for Progress in Paper Recycling.
His industry-relevant research stems from foundational experience at the USDA Forest Products Laboratory (1993-1998), where technology transfer awards validated practical implementation of his work, complemented by early mill operations exposure at Mosinee and Flambeau Paper Corporations during undergraduate studies.
