Gary Paige is a Professor of Practice at the USC School of Architecture, where he currently teaches courses such as 'Place and Culture,' 'Field Studies in Architecture,' and 'Field Studies in Tectonics.' Previously, he served as the Howard Friedman Professor of Practice at UC Berkeley and a Visiting Professor at Kyoto Seika University. He is the principal of GPS [Gary Paige Studio], a multidisciplinary design firm established in 1985. His work spans architecture, art installations, furniture design, and graphic design, emphasizing interdisciplinary research and the intersection of material and immaterial domains.
Education: B.Arch from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture).
Research interests include material experimentation, spatial diagrams, fabrication technology, and critical spatial inquiry. His projects, such as the Kappe Library and Freight Depot renovations at SCI-Arc, reflect a focus on innovative solutions to contemporary design challenges. He has also led initiatives like the Making and Meaning Program and co-founded the Asian Studies Program at SCI-Arc.
Awards: His Venice Biennale installation earned international recognition. His work has been exhibited globally and published widely.
