Dr. Gary Griffith serves as Academic Coordinator and core faculty member at Walden University in the College of Management and Human Potential. He joined Walden University as contributing faculty in the Master of Science in Information Systems Management program in 2011, and accepted a core faculty position in the Master of Science in Information Technology program in 2012. With over 12 years of teaching experience at Walden, Dr. Griffith has taught 16 different courses across BSIT, MISM, MSIT, and DIT programs, primarily focusing on Health Informatics, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security Master's degree programs.
Dr. Griffith's research interests include:
- Cyber Security - instrumental in securing Walden University's NSA Center in Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense designation in 2014
- Health Informatics - teaches courses like Foundations of Health Informatics and Representation of Health Information
- Software Engineering - leverages his extensive industry background
- Big Data Analytics - helped design and implement a new master's degree specialization
- Information Assurance and Risk Management
Dr. Griffith has made significant contributions to Walden University's academic programs, particularly in Cyber Security where his research enabled the university to receive the NSA Center in Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense designation in 2014. He has also been involved in designing and implementing new specializations, such as the Big Data Analytics master's degree program. Recently, he has expanded his role to include dissertation mentoring in the DIT program as both chair and committee member.
Dr. Griffith's professional background spans over 30 years in information systems and technology prior to his academic career:
- IBM Federal Systems Division (1980 onwards) - working with military computers for Army, Navy, Airforce, and NASA
- Fort Campbell Military base - supporting the Army while completing his Master's degree
- Trane/Ingersoll Rand (1998 onwards) - progressing from software development to Business Analyst to Project Leadership to Program Manager
- Austin Peay State University - taught courses while stationed at Fort Campbell
Dr. Griffith holds the following educational qualifications:
- PhD from Walden University
- MS from National Technology University
- BA from State University of New York at Binghamton
- AAS from Corning Community College
