Professor Gary Beauchamp is a Professor of Education in the Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy at Cardiff Metropolitan University. He previously served as Associate Dean Research/Director of Research from 2009 to 2020 and also holds an Honorary Professor position at Durham University's School of Education.
His research focuses on the innovative use of interactive technologies in learning and teaching, with additional expertise in primary education, music education (his PhD field from 1996), and primary school science education. Beauchamp's work bridges educational theory with practical classroom applications, particularly examining how technology can enhance learning experiences both indoors and in outdoor settings.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward investigating immersive technologies like 360° imaging in special education contexts, nature-based music education, and the impact of technology on collaborative learning processes. His research spans primary through secondary education, with particular attention to creative expression, teacher wellbeing, and the integration of digital tools in diverse learning environments.

Beauchamp has extensive leadership experience in educational research communities, having chaired the British Educational Studies Association (2014-2016), served as Vice-Chair of the National Digital Learning Council for two terms (2016-2021), and been an elected Member of the British Educational Research Association Council (2018-2021). He has examined doctoral students and served as external examiner at 11 universities including Cambridge, Edinburgh, Durham, and UCL. His professional background includes experience as an Additional Inspector for Estyn (Wales' education inspectorate) and beginning his career as a primary school teacher before moving to higher education at Swansea University.
