Gary A. Benjamin

Gary A. Benjamin serves as Advocacy Director at Community Legal Aid Services Inc. while co-teaching 'Race, the Law and Social Change in Southeast Michigan' at Wayne Law School. His work focuses on legal advocacy, healthcare access, and civil rights litigation. He is licensed in Michigan and Ohio and holds a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Research interests include the intersection of race, law, and social change, particularly through landmark Supreme Court cases and local legal decisions. He has published in The Journal of Law in Society and participated in U.S. Supreme Court briefings. Benjamin previously worked on Affordable Care Act advocacy and civil rights litigation in private practice.

He collaborates with Professor Peter J. Hammer on coursework examining racial discrimination cases and anti-discrimination law applications in southeast Michigan institutions.
