Dr. Gareth Owain Richards is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Medicine and Population Health, University of Sheffield, where he also serves as the I&KE Lead for Seed Innovation, IP, and Commercialisation. He is based in the Department of Oncology and Metabolism and leads a dynamic research group focused on GPCR/RAMP interactions with applications in cancer, endocrinology, and bone biology.

His research centers on the molecular pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their interactions with receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs), particularly in the context of endocrinology, cancer, and bone biology. He investigates how RAMPs modulate receptor signaling and how these insights can be translated into novel therapeutics, including small molecules and antibodies for conditions like pancreatic cancer and septic shock.
Dr. Richards has a strong entrepreneurial profile, having co-founded two spin-out companies: Medella Therapeutics and Modulus Oncology. His recent publications reflect a consistent focus on RAMP-GPCR complexes, bone metabolism, cancer signaling, and drug discovery. The work spans from fundamental molecular mechanisms to translational applications, with a growing emphasis on high-throughput screening and therapeutic development.
