Gareth Cowlin

Gareth Cowlin is a Lecturer at Staffordshire University's Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business school. His professional practice as an illustrator aligns with his academic role, emphasizing practical advice for students. He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (MMU, 2007–2008), MA in Graphic Communication (University of Glamorgan, 2004–2005), BA in Film and Video (Surrey Institute of Art and Design, 1996–1999), and a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, 1995–1996).

Research interests center on sequential art's therapeutic potential, exploring how graphic narratives compare to other media in fostering linear and multi-perspective engagement. He is developing a PhD proposal titled 'Sequential Art and the reconciliatory nature of imaginative work.'

Teaching focuses on Cartoon & Comic Arts Award modules, including Fundamentals of Cartoons and Comics, Comic Narrative & Art, Visual Storytelling, and Level 6 Negotiated Programmes. He also serves as a Level 5 Personal Tutor.
